Os prémios IMAGO INTERNATIONAL awards

Agora com a aproximação dos nossos prémios AIPCINEMA relembramos que ainda não tínhamos tido a oportunidade de referenciar aqui no nosso site os prémios IMAGO, que se realizaram pela primeira vez em Helsínquia e que terão a sua 2ª edição em Belgrado na Sérvia em Fevereiro ou Março de 2019.

Nesta 1ª edição o filme apontado pela aip foi «Cartas da Guerra» de joão Ribeiro aip, que não conseguiu infelizmente ser nomeado para a parte final. Ficará para uma próxima. A escolha do filme para representar a aip teve como base o facto deste filme ter sido premiado com o prémio Sophia pela Academia de Cinema na secção de Melhor direção de fotografia. Porém para a próxima edição dos prémios IMAGO os nossos representantes sairão dos prémios AIPCINEMA que serão anunciados no dia 8 de Março na Casa do Alentejo.

Jury citation.

This was a very difficult decision to make due to the very high quality of all nominees presented. The final choice was made only after a long and spirited discussion by the world-wide jury. Whilst all the films showed a remarkable exhibition of image integration to enhance the script, the jury felt that the use of light, composition, colour and continuity flow in the edit, has provided a superb example of how cinematography can enhance and heighten the meaning of the film. We feel that Seamus McGarvey BSC ASC has achieved this admirably in “Nocturnal Animals”. …"

Jury citation.

Cinematography in this film does not only serve the story but also represents classic aesthetic par excellence and does so with a remarkable ability to transport the audience into a world that exists only in the imagination. This cinematography is an exemplary case of transcending the borders of regular TV Drama genre and elevating it to a universal language of mood, tone, subtext and visual feast. The IMAGO Best cinematography award for Television Drama is presented to cinematographer Fabian Wagner BSC for Game of Thrones "The Winds of Winter"

Melhor direção de Fotografia para Documentário "Icon" - Łukasz Żal PSC

Jury citation. The jury has chosen a film about extreme human pain which dances on the ethical strings of film making. The cinematographers choice of handheld camera, longer lenses, often in natural backlight, softens the close-ups and makes them impressionistic. Throughout the film the cinematographer retains their stylistic approach. With well thought focal lengths that tighten the nearness of people closed inside the building, the cinematographer makes us feel a sense of the claustrophobic pain of these people. Colors are pastel but the pastel green, which is supposed to calm us down, leaves us with an uncomfortable feeling. This film is not a story, it is a state of mind, a human condition. This has been completely understood by the cinematographer...... So the winner is Lukas Zal PSC for his oustanding work on the film Ikon.

Para além dos prémios por categoria houve também para o reconhecimento honorífico. Era incontornável não dar na ocasião do 25 aniversário do IMAGO o reconhecimento merecido daquele que fundou a federação o italiano Luciano Tovoli. Foi em 1992 que por sua iniciativa juntou alguns dirigentes de outras associações nomeadamente a BSC de Inglaterra, BVK da Alemanha, AFC da França e a AIC de Itália como anfitriã. Curiosamente a AEC de Espanha ainda não estava formada e participou pelo menos na 2ª reunião da formação da IMAGO.

The IMAGO International Award for Extraordinary Technical Achievement Joe Dunton BSC

O reconhecimento dado a Joe Dunton BSC foi uma homenagem merecida a alguém que ao longo de 50 anos se dedicou à técnica de câmaras e de objetivas. Foi ele que foi um dos arquitetos das famosas objetivas de abertura 0,7 que foram usadas no filme de Stanley Kubrick de Barry Lyndon com a brilhante fotografia de John Alcott BSC.

The IMAGO International Award for Extraordinary Contribution to the Art of Cinematography Marek Żydowicz Director of Camerimage Film Festival O diretor do Festival Camerimage Marek Zydowicz também foi alvo de reconhecimento na noite de gala do IMAGO. O Festival dedicado exclusivamente dedicado à direção de fotografia também celebrou 25 anos de existência. O festival tem sido um dos maiores veículos de promoção da direção de fotografia, talvez o único festival no mundo que se lhe dedica inteiramente.

The IMAGO International Award for Extraordinary Technical Achievement 1 Jannicke Mikkelsen FNF

A jovem norueguesa foi distinguida pelo seu extraordinário trabalho com a banda dos Queen que editaram o seu álbum em formato 3D dando a incrível sensação de se estar mesmo no concerto. O resultado foi inovador dado que até ali nenhuma banda tinha usado a tecnologia 3D como os Queen a Jannicke foi capaz, apesar de ser mulher, e apesar do equipamento 3D ser ainda rudimentar e amador, ter levado a cabo o trabalho com elevado grau técnico.
